LET HYMN BLESS YOU

GOD’S GOOD NEWS GAZETTE STAFF

This is the time of year that we celebrate the greatest “comeback” in the History of the World: The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!!!! While there are a number of songs reflecting this, one of our favorites is this effort by Charles Wesley, who is considered by some as the greatest hymn-writer of all ages. As you read the lyrics you can readily see why we consider it so highly.

While Christ the Lord is Risen Today is a great Easter Hymn, we firmly believe you can’t properly celebrate the Resurrection of Christ without singing He Arose, which is also known as Low in the Grave He Lay. With that thought in mind, we have Blessed You with both songs this issue!

CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY

(Selected Verses)

Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

HE AROSE!

Low in the grave He lay
Jesus my Savior!
Waiting the coming day
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign
He arose! (He arose)
He arose! (He arose)
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch His bed
Jesus, my Savior!
Vainly they seal the dead
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign
He arose! (He arose)
He arose! (He arose)
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Death cannot keep his prey
Jesus, my Savior!
He tore the bars away
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign
He arose! (He arose)
He arose! (He arose)
Hallelujah! Christ arose!
