TANGIPAHOA TRANSLATIONS:

KNOWING YOUR AUDIENCE

Good Evening, Folks, this here is Maynard the Bullfrog Watkins of W-E-R-D Radio in Tangipahoa, Louisiana – 1300 on your radio dial but for you 1298, with another Tangipahoa Translation of the Bible verses you have Learned to Love!  Tonight’s Translation is brought to you by Spig & Spug Tippytoe’s Organic Food and Fresh Manure Outlet – for all those who want healthy food AND healthy fertilizer.

Tonight I’m gonna be telling you about one of my kin folk, Great Grand Uncle Jedidiah Watkins.  Now, Jedidiah was a firm believer that when you preach you need to know who your congregation is, just like Paul did in Acts 17:23, where he was talking to the Romans about their “Unknown God.”

       Anyhow, Jedidiah lit out across the country to preach the Word of God.  He always opened his tent meetings with his favorite song – BRINGING IN THE SHEAVES!  Now, ol’ Jed started out in Nebraska, where, of course, he sung the song the way it was written:

Brining in the Sheaves

Brining in the Sheaves

We shall come Rejoicing

Bringing in the Sheaves.

       After Nebraska, Jed went to Northern Arizona, where his congregation was made up of the many Bosque Shepherds in the area.  So, when he sang his song there he would sing;

Bringing in the Sheeps

Bringing in the Sheeps

We shall come Rejoicing

Bringing in the Sheeps.

       Jed then drifted south, down to Tombstone, Arizona – the town to tough to die!  The only place he could find there that would allow him to conduct his services was the public laundry, so there he sang:

Bringing in the Sheets

Bringing in the Sheets

We shall come Rejoicing
