Why We Never Let our Kids Sit Between Us!

between us

Children are, no doubt about it, a gift from God! And, the best years of my life was when our house was Blessed by having ours at home with us. And, everyone knew how much our kids meant to my wife and me. That’s why so many people were surprised when they saw that we never allowed them to sit between us in church. Or at a restaurant. Or anywhere else, for that matter. There was a time or two that I had to explain our rationale, and I thought I would take the time today to share it with those who read my Blogs.

It all started with Gen. 2:24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” and Eph. 5:31Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. I have been reading this since I was, ohhhhh twelve or fourteen years old or so. And, right from the first time I read it, I figured this meant that no one should come between a man and his wife – – not his mother, not his father, no one!

Now, these verses supported the fact that God had noted that “it is not good that man should be alone,” and had created a help meet for Adam – Eve. Notice, and this is very important, that he created Adam a wife, not sons! He could have just as easily created Cain and Abel right from the get go, circumventing Eve. But, He didn’t.

Ok – – so now we have the fact that woman was created to fill Adam’s People Void, and that when they marry man and woman should become one flesh, allowing no one to come between them. No one!

I’m sure you are probably thinking, “Now, Floyder, that don’t mean your own kids. I mean, have you ever seen kids come between their parents and cause a problem?” My answer is simply, “More times than you can even imagine!”

Our thought concerning this, even though it was more symbolic than anything else, was that if we didn’t allow our kids to come between us when they were little, as they grew older they knew there was no chance that they could come between us in the more difficult teen years.

Now, before you go all ballistic and condemn me for being a terrible father, I want you to consider this: “Do you have any idea how reassuring it is to a child to know that no one, not even them, can come between their Mom and Dad? It isn’t like they weren’t allowed to sit with us. One sat by Mom, one by Dad and one on our lap(s). They saw as a closely knit family – – – and that’s exactly what we were, and are!

Well, that pretty much sums up Why We Never Let our Kids Sit Between Us! I don’t expect anyone else to adopt this sentiment, but I do want you to remember that every child needs to know that no one can come between their Mom and Dad!
