What a Great Time for Happy Files

I was visiting with a friend the other day and asked them if they had added anything to their Happy File recently. Instead of giving me an answer, they gave me a look as though as I had two or three heads. Now, if you know me at all, you know that I get that look quite often, but this time it surprised me, as I thought this was a fairly legitimate, normal question. Before I could add anything, my friend asked,

Floyder, what the smash is a Happy File?”

Seeing that they were actually unaware of what I was talking about, I took the time to explain to them that a Happy File, in my case, at least, is a folder where I put things that make me smile when I look at them. This can be a card, an E-Mail, or a letter that has special meaning to me. They often are compliments, or a special “Thank You” that I have received.

Floyder,” they next asked, “doesn’t such a folder just take up space in your filing cabinet?”

I conceded that it could, but then went on to explain that the key to having a good Happy File is not just to store these special goodies, but to take them out and review them once in a while – – especially on days when you may be feeling a little down.

My friend paused, and I could tell that they were pondering what I had just said. While they were cogitating on this a bit, I added a special thought to what they were thinking.

You know,” I continued, “it’s not your own Happy File that you really should be concerned about.”

They gave me that three-headed look again, and said, “What do you mean?”

I smiled and, as I am prone to do in instances such as this, I quoted a scripture. This time it was Acts 20:35cIt is more blessed to give than to receive. You see, I went on, while it is always nice to get something for our Happy File, it is much more important that we give others something to put in theirs!

The GOOD NEWS is we should especially be paying attention to this during the COVID19 situation now at hand, as it is important that we all work diligently to send others items that they can put in their Happy Files! While we need to quarantine ourselves, we shouldn’t also isolate ourselves! Let people know how much, and why!, you miss spending time with them. Encourage them in every way imagine, for we are told in Heb. 3:13a But encourage one another day after day, If we all conscientiously do this, it won’t be long until our Happy Files will be filled to over-flowing.
