WHAT THE EDITOR IS THINKING:

7 Things That Angers God and

7 Things That ….

By Floyd Allen, Editor, GOD’S GOOD NEWS GAZETTE

I don’t know about you, but I do not want to make God Angry! As a result, I think it a real boon to know what things anger Him so I can avoid them! With that thought in mind, I am going to share a few things that you may want to avoid, too!

Exodus 4:1410

And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. 13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send. 14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

It appears that when God tells you to do something and you keep making excuses as to why you shouldn’t that it ticks Him off more than a little bit! Now, you will notice that when Moses first voiced his concern it did not create a problem. However, once God advised him that He would be taking care of it and Moses continued to resist that the “Anger” comes into play!

Exodus 32:7-107

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: 8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 9And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 10Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

You can only turn against God’s ways so many times, it appears, before His “wrath will wax hot” against you!

Numbers 11:1

And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

And when the people complained

I think there is a real lesson there!

Numbers 12:1-10

And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

2And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it. 3(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) 4And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out. 5And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth. 6And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. 7My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. 8With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? 9And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed. 10And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

I think this story can best be summed up by

Psalm 105:15

Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

It may be wise to keep this in mind next time you are contemplating mean mouthing a servant of God!

Deut. 7:3 – 4

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

Boy, this gives a whole new meaning to “Be ye not unequally yoked!” (II. Corinthians 6:14)

Joshua 7:1 CEV

The Lord had said that everything in Jericho belonged to him. But Achan from the Judah tribe took some of the things from Jericho for himself. And so the Lord was angry with the Israelites, because one of them had disobeyed him.

No doubt about it, if we disobey God we run the risk of Angering Him!

II Sam. 6:7

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

This is another example of disobedience. You see, the Israelites were returning the Ark of the Covenant to Israel, when it started to fall off of the cart that it was on. Uzzah, hoping to protect it, grabbed on and steadied it. The thing of the thing is, the Israelites knew that they were not supposed to touch the Ark. As a result, he immediately dropped dead!

There you have it … seven things that Angers God. But, did you know that there are also seven things that God Hates? We find this in

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

There you have it, fourteen things that do not please God! The GOOD NEWS is that if we avoid these, we can go a long way in serving God the way He wants to be served!
