Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, …
GOD’S GOOD NEWS GAZETTE STAFF
I’m sure that most of you are probably thinking, “Well, now, that’s not much of a challenge!” And, for those of us who are “Bibled,” that’s true! The key here is not knowing that the rest of the verse is, “and today, and forever.” Rather, the key is knowing what that meant, and means!, to all of us.
You see, only one disciple, John, knew that Jesus was the same whipped and tortured as He was raising Lazarus from the dead; that He was the same hanging on the cross as He was walking on water; that He was the same while in the grave as He was feeding the 5000. That’s why John was the only disciple at the foot of the cross – – he knew that the cross was the ultimate victory, not a grotesque defeat!
Now that we have discussed what Heb. 13:8 meant, let’s take a minute and look at what it means. Jesus is the same when we seek Him for a Healing as He was when He dealt with the Lame Man (John 5:1-9); He is the same when we need a Financial Blessing as He was when He told the disciples to throw out their nets on the other side of the boat (John 21:1-10); He is the same when we come to Him seeking a Way to Heaven as He was to Nicodemus (John 3:3).
The reason that Heb. 13:8 excites me so much is that to find out what Jesus is like in the 21st Century, all I have to do is read The Word of God and see what He was like in the 1st Century! He doesn’t change with time, regardless of how much the world around us changes! His Love endures forever, and all that He expects of us is:
- We be Born Again
- We Love God with all our Heart, Mind, and Soul.
- And that we Love our Neighbor as Our Self!
Isn’t it exciting, and GOOD NEWS, that what we learned about Jesus as kids is still what we need to know about Him today? I know it is to me, because you can’t say the same about your telephone!
