When It Comes to Science,
the Bible is Millenia Ahead!!!
The Good News Gazette Staff
Though some scientists don’t know it, or won’t admit it, scientifically speaking the BIBLE is, and always has been, “right on” where Science is concerned. It is the intent of this mini-dissertation to reflect on Scientific Facts in the BIBLE, and give some idea of when man’s “discoveries” finally verified what God had told us all along!
This issue we will be discussing several aspects of Science, with special emphasis on water. One of the more intriguing aspects reported by the Word of God revolves around what we today refer to as the Hydrological Cycle. This process begins when water evaporates from the surface of the water. The moist air lifts, and water vapor condenses as it cools, serving to create clouds. These clouds “drift with the wind,” until the moisture returns to earth in the form of precipitation. Once it returns to earth one of three things happens:
- It again evaporates, going back into the atmosphere as described;
- It seeps into the earth and becomes groundwater;
- It becomes “runoff” and makes its way to lakes, rivers, and streams, eventually going all the way to oceans, where the cycle begins all over again.
Above is the “Scientific” explanation of how the process works. Now, examine a few scriptures that discuss the issue:
Ecc. 1:7 – All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
Amos 9:6b He that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.
Josh. 36:27-28 27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: 28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.
See any similarities? It wasn’t until Bernard Palissy, in 1580, that man “figured out” what the Bible had been telling them for thousands of years!
The great flood recorded in Genesis shows what happens when we get too much water. Fortunately, we are told in Is. 40:12a, “He hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand.” The key word here, of course, is “measured,” alluding to the fact that He is the one who controls the amount of precipitation that we get!
While not necessarily related directly to water, Ecc. 1:6 shares a rather interesting thought, too: “The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.”
What King Solomon was describing we today refer to as “The Jet Stream.” And, this is a pretty recent discovery where “modern man” is concerned, as it was WW II airmen that introduced the idea of a Jet Stream to us.
So, again, we find that many of the “great discoveries” of the Science World had been recorded in the Bible all along!
